Guide for Family & Friends

Family and friends may not always know how to help when their loved one’s kidneys are failing. One way to help is to learn more about the kidney patient’s transplant options and specific actions that can be taken to help.

Actions include:
  • Learn all you can about transplant by talking with healthcare providers, reading about transplant, and talking with kidney recipients about their transplant experiences.
  • Talk to the patient about why he or she might pursue transplant.
  • Help the patient complete transplant evaluation and get on the waiting list for a deceased kidney.
