It costs billions of dollars to care for patients who are suffering from End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and there is a large per-person cost to treat patients who rely on dialysis. Solving the organ donor shortage would result in huge cost savings for the nation and better quality of life for patients.
Access to Transplant Care
Research has shown there are differences among population groups in access to kidney transplants. Providing education about transplant as a treatment option to a broader range of patients can help improve access to care for those who may be less likely to receive it.
Public Health
ESRD can affect a person's health in multiple ways and is often related to other major health problems, including obesity and diabetes.
